Vintage NOS Deadstock New By Any Name

I have sold online since 2002 and find it so funny that in all that time there has not been a universal

word for New but Old Vintage items.

Seems simple enough.

Here are some but I know there are others:

Then there is for other items.

NWT=New With Tags

NIB=New In Box

I love as a dealer to find and sell this type of vintage and have many of them currently for sale on my shops

but from a search the tags are seemingly different for the sellers so I am sure for the potential buyers as well.

Please add more if you use different terms as a buyer or as a seller.

Reminds me of house hunting. Using a proper search term can sometimes determine if you find the one you want or so so one you miss.

Our Heirloom Vintage Humble Baby Blanket

I collect, love and sell vintage and antique items.

I have been a dealer since 1996 and the whole field surprises me sometimes. This time I received a personal surprise.

No matter how long I do this I still love rummaging through other shops looking for goodies.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a 1954 to 1955 Fall and Winter Montgomery Catalog recently.

I snatched it up as I love looking at pictures from other time periods.

Lo and behold I turned to page 304 and there it was. Our Baby blanket.!

My honey, our son and our new grandson were all brought home from the hospital in this humble blanket.

Baby blue.

It has been kept carefully in a trunk for years and taken out on these special occasions.

It made me wonder how (but I guess I shall never know) how my mother in law came to acquire this little blanket.

Was it a shower gift? Did she sit carefully thumbing through another but the same catalog preparing a layette for her new baby. I do know they had waited a long time for a son and were ecstatic.

It cost $4.98 and was listed under Dainty Knitwear and Buntings, Wards finest shawl, a luxurious and useful baby gift. Did she say this sounds like a fine one to herself? It was even listed under K. Was this a factor?

She was a wonderful woman and mother in law who is no longer with us. I know she would be so happy to see that after also waiting a very long time last year we finally welcomed our first grandson.

Some personal issues were involved and we really, really wanted this little precious guy.

Knowing he was all snug in this vintage blanket all clean and smelling sweet made it special but finding this catalog made it all extra sweet. How timely and fun.

My Antiques and Vintage Finds World

Well, first off I cannot believe another year is closing soon. Seems like we just had Christmas and now here we are again.
2010 has been interesting in many ways personally. Adjusting to a whole new life in another state definitely has its high and lows.
In relations to my business most definitely. Amazing how markets are so different in different areas. Not sure how much locality or the national economy plays roles but things sure have changed for me.
Houston area was where I was so more demand than supply was the rule.

I so appreciate my customers and folks I meet along the way on the internet. Dealers that are helpful in many ways I also love knowing.
Selling in real life since 1996 and online since 2002 I have learned a great deal.
It changes constantly online. I have tried to change with it over the years but it stays a great challenge to sell.
I have been at many venues including Tias, Go Antiques, Ruby Lane, Joseph Marc, Ioffer, Cyberattic, Bonanzle, MainStreetMall and had an Ebay shop 2 different times. Whew....I am tired just thinking about it all.
I have 100% feedback at Ebay.

Currently and hopefully I have settled down to now selling at Ruby Lane as Exclusive shop and at Ruby Plaza.

Why so many do you ask? Selling online is a lot of work. The greatest factor to it all is the search engines in my honest opinion. Silly me just thought I had to only know my antiques and vintage inventory when I started.
Cost factors and traffic to the different venues play a big role. Customer service of the different venues also play a large role to me personally. It all changes all year long really. At one time I was at 5 places and could not do it. Felt like one of those people trying to juggle dishes.
Life is important to me and I love family and enjoying the fruits of my hard labor sometimes. One side to the business no one ever discusses is how hard it is on ones body to sit and list all day every day. Many dealers are in the business due to health factors believe it or not.
Many have cancer or heart problems or cannot sit for long periods of time. This is another hard thing about selling online. I have seen them come and go literally and it is hard. .
I do this with health and it is hard so really, really feel for these folks trying to do it all.

I love it all though. Pure and simple it is my passion. It gets a bit out of hand sometimes but I try to practice self control at those times. Sharing my finds gives me great satisfaction. I have sold hundreds of items and try my best to give the service I would want to receive. My Emerald Green Beaded Cardigan Search

Every day I find and list lovely things for people who love vintage. Most of the time I am pretty good about letting things go. I had many brothers and sisters so sharing was pretty much the norm.
Although once in awhile I want something for myself. Our children used to accuse me of hiding chocolate. Who me?

I have been a collector since I was about 8 or 9 and collected TV guides and then postcards. I have been an antiques seller since 1996. I have seen a lot of this business. Some good and some bad but it is the love of vintage and saving or preserving that keeps me going.

I personally collect vintage cardigan beaded sweaters. I also collect sweater guards, mens cufflinks and fancy Christmas beaded and felt hostess aprons.
Not sure why exactly but I know it has to do with a lady that was an angel to me as a child named Mrs. Harris. She was tall and sold Avon and always smelled good. These beaded cardigans speak to me of her. I loved her dearly.
Anyway, about 5 years ago I decided I wanted an emerald green cardigan with beads. I have looked everywhere and I mean everywhere. People on forums like the Fedora Lounge even helped me look. Once or twice I ran across this rare desire of mine but alas it was always too small.
Just mentioned it on a fashion forum and Amy of Viva Vintage said she may have one I would be interested in.
She did not understand I have been shown olive, drab green, lime green and greens I never knew existed before so I was pretty jaded and said sure whatever.
It is near the Christmas season so I especially look high and low this time of year.
When she sent the photos to me I think I stopped breathing for a minute or 2.
My cardigan I gasped....
Finally I cried. Passionate about vintage is an understatement. Instead of waning each year since 1996 it gets stronger and stronger. This cardigan is perfect and it is mine, mine, mine.
I do not take it lightly when my customers tell me their wishes and how happy they are to find the memory they remember. It makes people happy.
I have found dolls for little grown up now girls they lost as a child, I have found china named after people for their children, coffee cups for special ones someone gave them they broke..
It is not even alway a large monetary item. It stops the world for a minute for the new owners.
I wrote a bit about this when I sold a pink trench coat awhile back here on my blog. The lady wanted to buy it as her family photo showed one just like it.
This to me is a priceless perk to my job. Unplanned I put things on not knowing who is looking for what.
I wonder if Amy knew how much happiness this cardigan would bring to me when she picked it up? She was a fabulous seller also. Very professional, prompt shipping and very nicely packaged. It made it even more special as it was taken care of with special care.
I must of been a good little girl this Christmas as I got my Emerald Green Beaded cardigan. Yeah....

Vintage Mad for Plaid 1960s and Scotland

This time of year I always think of plaid. Always. If you look at these 1960s school photos of me it will give you some idea why.
My mom believed in several things when it came to me. Short hair, round toed Navy Blue tennis and plaid.
Our family has Scottish blood in us and a few years ago I was able to go to Scotland to the Tartan factory and find our Tartan.
So I now have an appreciation for plaid even though as a child I hated it.
I so remember my first day of school and the only thing that I remember is my plaid satchel with the Big Chief tablet, Paste, fat Husky pencil and Prang watercolors.
As a vintage and antiques dealer I now cannot seem to pass up plaid anything in the Fall.
Here are a few of my plaid findings. Pendleton jacket and coat, 2 skirts as well as a 1960s Trench. Now if I could figure out how to move the photos around here better. Sorry. Edinburgh Scotland. I love you.

Vintage Fall and Homecoming Mums and the South Oh My

It has come to my attention that I have always assumed everyone knew about football games, Homecoming and giant Mum corsages.
I am very curious now because I have run across many out of the South specifically out of Texas that have never heard of this tradition.
From research it seems the Homecoming Mums was much more popular at one time in other parts of the United States then it is now.

As far back as the 1930s it seems. So I am asking for photos or information on this topic.

Homecoming is just that. The Homecoming of all previous Alumni who ever rooted for that school. Many times they will coincide when previous classes will have their own class parties. Like 10 year reunion of the class of 1989 or something. Sometimes the class will be recognized at the game.

With much fanfare the Queen and King is crowned generally at halftime.

Tradition is what it is all about in a nutshell.
Think football and this time of year I think Homecoming and Mums.
Crysanthemum meaning is Fidelity so I am assuming the previous pick of this flower was lifelong support of the particular School. So see my really big flower. I really, really support this school.

As far back as I know Victorian times many pretty woman can be seen in postcards with this flower. Whole series even.

Fall Musings and Vintage and Antiques

Today my yard is filled with Robins and leaves are starting to Fall. Not sure if it is because it has been so hot and dry here in Arkansas or it means Fall is coming.
Everywhere in the stores in the real world Fall items have been up awhile and now they are even starting to put up the Christmas items. Way too early for that IMHO.

I love Fall as probably my favorite Season after Spring which seems to not exist anymore. This year we had 10 inches of snow on First Day of Spring. Then we jumped to hot.

Fall means children go back to School or earlier and I start thinking of plaid. Then sweaters and cardigans, orange, yellow and black. I am a major vintage cardigan aholic. I love the vintage beaded ones and am looking religiously for an Emerald Green one in a medium to large.

Dog Days of Summer means Sun Suit and Lemonade

It is hot, hot, hot in Arkansas this week. 104 and 105 is not what I want to hear from my TV weather guy. Playgrounds are empty and you have to be pretty motivated like no food in the house to move out and about.
Salads or pizza delivery is the best one can do to not heat up the kitchen.
Thought I would post a few items in my inventory that makes me think Summertime and staying cool.

Vintage Sun Suit, Sundresses, Lemonade, Milk Glass, White and Aqua are a few things that make it at least a bit more tolerable.
Like the funky 1970s Halter?

Cooking for Christmas Parties

I got smart this year and picked 2 desserts to bake over and over again for different parties I have attended.
Pumpkin Crunch and Date Treasure Bars.
Did and am doing pretty good so far in making them but forgot sugar the other day in the pumpkin crunch but it has yellow cake mix in it so not too bad without sugar.
Here is the recipe for the Date Treasure bars. they are delicious.

8 oz. pkg. chopped dates
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. Land O Lakes sweet cream butter
1/2 c. water
1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. chopped pecans
3/4 c. milk
1/4 c. orange juice (juice from 1 orange or prepared orange juice)
2 eggs
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. grated orange peel
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 15 x 10 inch jelly-roll pan. In heavy 3 quart sauce pan combine dates, sugar, butter and water. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until dates soften (5 to 8 minutes). Remove from heat. Add remaining ingredients. By hand, stir until well mixed (1 to 2 minutes). Spread into greased pan. Bake near center of 350 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely; spread with frosting.
FROSTING:
3 c. confectioners' sugar
1/3 c. Land O Lakes sweet cream butter, softened
3 tbsp. milk
1 tbsp. grated orange peel
In 1 1/2 quart mixer bowl combine all frosting ingredients. Beat at medium speed, scraping sides of bowl often, until light and fluffy (1 to 2 minutes). Yields 4 dozen.

Amazing the things I have to do to research an item. I have since cleaned the spot off of the top so it is all fine except a spot on the lining of the cape or coat by the labels as shown. I can see either Ann Margaret or Joey Heatherton (whatever happened to her anyway?) prancing around in this outfit

The Pink Trench and Why I Love What I Do

Sometimes I think I am about tired of trying to sell all my treasures I have accumulated and then I get a simple note reminding me why I do this in the first place.
One time I was doing an antiques show in the real world and a very old gentleman that looked like he was dragged to the show by his shopping wife walked into my booth.
Instantly this man changed my life. He suddenly saw a Ruby cakeplate I had and instantly the man morphed in front of me. He had tears in his eyes as he told me a story of how during the depression he and his brother saved for a whole year to buy a cakeplate like mine for their mother.
Thru his words we were both transported to that time and the plate in the window. As I had lost my parents by then I could completely relate.
Right then and there I decided my stuff is not stuff but memories.
Monetary tokens of joy from times past. Over the years I sometimes get little jewels like the old man brought to me. I realized I make people happy and my treasures bring a moment in the past.
Yesterday I was sent this photo.
Seems I had just thought I had sold a nice vintage pink trenchcoat. Turns out a lady wanted one just like she remembered.

I just wanted to write to let you know that the raincoat arrived yesterday. It is beautiful and fits me well. I had sentimental reasons for purchasing the coat- my grandmother had one just like it in the 1960s and 70s which she gave away years ago.

Antiques/Moving and Stuff

I moved from Texas to Arkansas last year and I am still unpacking stuff. I told honey he will have to move by himself next time as I am staying put. We lived in our last house for 15 years.
Raised by depression era parents and from a very large family I save everything. I always think someone somewhere surely needs this. My mother saved bread sacks and tinfoil. I am not quite that bad but...
I am now going to seperate the 2 venues I sell at.

Babies/Cats/Selling Stuff

Well, I was wrong. The mama swallow bird working so hard had 6 babies. I got to watch her and dad teach them to fly. So unreal cute. A few hit my window a few times and worried me but sat a minute and were ok. Only one seems to not want to leave home.
Now I have only one problem. I just bought a new home and it seems I got a cat with the home. Yep, they ran off and left me with a yellow tom.
Since I am now feeding him he is bringing me gifts like moles and stuff. Can anyone see the problem?
I have now become a full time nanny to a cat and making sure he doesn't want to bring me a gift of a baby bird.
I am trying to add stuff to my store but am disenchanted lately as sales are so slow.
So I try to list and then I get carried away watching birds. Oh well.
Had a good weekend and rested so will be adding some cute stuff to my stores this week. One is this cute vintage homemade dress. Here is also some more pixs of the grown babies.

Honor the Fallen this Memorial Day

Memorial Day and Veterans Day always makes me think of my father.

May we all say a prayer or send out a good thought for the soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice and the families that love them.
I pray for the families this weekend. As we eat our BBQ may we take a moment. When I sit and really think about it all there are no words to express how deeply I feel about these soldiers. Honor and respect are so due these brave, unselfish men and women.
We still as a family have military and one in harms way but many in my family have come home safe and sound. I am eternally grateful.

Mother Swallow and Her Hungry Babies

A mother swallow bird has 4 babies outside my window. It is amazing to watch her flying off finding food for those hungry little birds.
She looks like she is saying "What Have I Done" in the second one. Then in last it looks like they are saying: More, More, More.

Wow, I had lost my blog and couldn't figure out how to find it till now. Alot has changed.

I just love Springtime and Easter and new life.
I have a little church bird house on my porch and a little bird has been one busy mama trying to make a nest for her babies to come.
She has even shredded up my big yellow bow I have hung for the soldiers fighting in Iraq. Could say she is even being protected by the cause.
Bringing wads of every kind of thing in her tiny beak some are bigger than her almost.
What a good mama.
All the redbud trees around here in Texas around Lake Conroe are blooming beautiful pink buds even though it is still in the 20s and 30s in the morning. It has been warming up to low 70s in afternoon. Even my wild plum trees are starting to put on white buds and my daffodils are blooming. I love daffodils but they sure don't last long enough.
This of course inspires me to add an Easter category to my store and figuring out pink, yellow, and anything remotely Spring like to go into said category.
Decorating is something I love to do with my antiques and collectibles.
Sure wish it would hurry up and warm up though. All this pink and yellow and Easter stuff sure requires lace curtains and spring colors to set it off.

Been a few since I posted here. Took a trip to one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Canmore and Banff Canada. Got to play in the snow and for being from Texas where it is still 82 degrees on October 30th. that is a big deal.
I took this photo and think the church with the background is so lovely.

I know it has been awhile since I have posted on this blog but I have been very busy. I have added a ton of stuff to my stores.
My cute tip towel sold I had shown on the last post but vintage textiles is not something I am short on. I have many online and more to list.
Thinking Fall season and Christmas season always gives me a burst of energy. Maybe if I list some Fall inventory I will start feeling it!
It is about 90 degrees in Texas but worth a shot!
It is supposed to rain all week and that is good. I just planted about 8 crepe myrtle trees a month ago and nice to not have to water them everyday as they are small still. Hardy trees for Texas though and lovely when they put on flowers.
The Sycamore tree is my favorite tree though because I really love the bark and the color changes in the leaves. One day it is my dream to visit New England in the Fall.

Sandy's Fancy Pants Antiques Trip to Puerto Rico!

Well, I have come back from a week long trip to Puerto Rico.
San Juan has beautiful old buildings, Aquadilla and Isabel has beautiful beaches but alas since I didn't know it was a National holiday most of the shops were closed so I didn't find any good antiques.
Went to Moca and found a shop with beautiful Mundillo lace but the museum for this type of antique bobbin lace technique was closed. Picked up a few things for personal gift.
Gearing up for the Christmas shopping season soon so be sure and check my blog from time to time.
Going to be doing themes this year. Cannot wait and am getting so excited......

Vintage Textiles!

Isn't this the cutest vintage tea towel. Someone took alot of time doing this lady! I really have a thing for vintage textiles. I have special towels, tablecloths, aprons and quilts. I just sold and ironed a 102 inch long Mexican tablecloth set. Whew!
What is it about vintage stuff. Do we love them for the quality or the nostalgia and memories. I especially love the vintage Christmas aprons. I collect them and the more glittery the better. Not to really wear but to just look at!
Everything I sell is like taking a walk down memory lane of my collectible craze at the time. First I collected dolls and won ribbons with my dolls and then I went on to milk glass, then art glass, then carnival glass especially Northwood. Then vintage clothing including purses and hats.
I am currently in love with this hat (see photo) and am trying my best to find out about Adele Clair. Who is she? She was out of New York I do know that. Anyone know please comment. Thanks. Sandy

Rain, rain and more rain here in Texas. First time in years if ever I haven't gone to any fireworks display on the 4th. Just too messy. Heard them all night long though. My poor puppy dog was a nervous wreck trying to go potty. Did have a nice family BBQ early in the day.
I have been a busy gal in the rain adding lovely antiques and collectibles to my stores.
Vintage clothing is my latest kick and polka dots are in. Just sold a nice 1960s dress full of polka dots. I have lots more to photograph but my mannequin is not to excited to stand out in the rain.........Hee, hee!
